Little Cuyahoga River Stream Restoration

Akron, OH

Installed February 2012

Project Overview

Phase II of the Little Cuyahoga River stream restoration project restored over 2,200 linear feet of riverbed.

Habitat & Channel Improvements

River conditions were improved with the addition of functional floodplain areas, longer channel length with a winding stream pattern, riffle-pool features, riparian plantings, and diverse instream habitats.

Bridge Design & Precast Architecture

The project also included two similar bridges at Kelly Ave. and Third Ave. Clear-span precast arches were chosen to stay out of the main channel. Precast headwalls and wingwalls feature a formliner finish, which was stained in the field. The same formliner was used for cast-in-place railing at the job site, creating a seamless transition
