Project Overview
A new structure was needed to replace a 3-span box culvert built in 1949 at a state road near New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Efficient Installation & Deep Cover Design
To limit road closure time and a nearly 8-mile detour, Woolpert and the Ohio Department of Transportation selected a precast concrete arch bridge. The 54’ clear span eliminated the existing structure’s piers in the channel, reducing the chance of debris buildup, flooding, and future maintenance requirements.
The arch was a perfect fit to carry the nearly 20 feet of earth cover, creating a 40-foot grade separation from stream bed to roadway.
